The Montenegrin and Yugoslav water polo legend and member of the Hall of Fame is embarking on new challenges, and he will also be an actor in the next European Championship.
Mirko Vičević is the new coach of Slovenia, the federation of that country announced.
The man who was an Olympic and world champion as a player with Yugoslavia, and who, through his coaching career, led Kataro, the younger selections of Montenegro and Crvena zvezda, succeeded Kristof Štromayer on the bench of Slovenia, who left the position of coach due to illness.
According to the Slovenian media, he will lead the country's national team at least at the European Championship, which will be held in Zagreb and Dubrovnik in January.
Slovenia will play its group matches in Dalmatia, and its rivals will be Slovakia, the Netherlands and Romania. In order to win the playoffs and knockout stage from Division 2, it will need to be in one of the first two places in the table.
Montenegro will also play group stage matches in Dubrovnik, and its rivals in Division 1 will be France, Spain and host Croatia.
