With a ticket to Paris and finally without stress, Montenegrin water polo players attack the best team on the planet.
It's time for the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Doha - the "sharks" will play against Spain tomorrow (Tuesday) at 14 p.m.
The match against the team that conquered Europe twenty days ago in Zagreb is probably the easiest for Vladimir Gojković's men during the previous two hellish months - Spain is the favorite, and Montenegro fulfilled its goal by qualifying for the quarterfinals - qualifying for the Olympic Games.
"I think we can get a lot from this game and I want us to hold out until the end of the match, be equal and try to make a surprise," coach Gojković said.
At the European Championship in January, "Furija" lost only the match at the start against Croatia after penalty roulette, then David Martin's team caught the momentum and dominantly became the champion of the continent.
Along the way, it was better than Montenegro, which held its own until the middle of the fourth quarter (14:12).
"They are an exceptional selection - individually and as a team. They are phenomenally organized and surely those results are not accidental," said Gojković.
How against such a team?
"It is not difficult to prepare for them - we simply have to be focused for 32 minutes and we have to be close to our maximum with all 13 players," says Gojkovic.
The Montenegrin coach also commented on going to the Games in Paris.
"In my opinion, a great success - for Montenegrin water polo and Montenegrin sports. The water polo national team is going to the Olympic Games for the fifth time in a row, and I think that it is a really great achievement from the environment we are in."
He turned once more to his players.
"I have to congratulate them again, it's a huge stress when you prepare for one competition for two months, and now we did it for two in less than a month. We are happy and all this can only be an additional impulse in their careers and a motivation to be even better," concluded Gojković.
Although Spain has won the World and European Championships in recent years, and in every competition since 2018 it has always reached the semi-finals, Montenegro is still convincingly leading in head-to-head duels - 18:10, with six draws.
