Montenegrin water polo players will play at the Olympic Games in Paris, but Aleksa Ukropina will not be there, because he failed the doping test!
The left-handed player was tested on January 21, just before leaving for Trebinje to start preparations for the World Cup in Doha, and he "failed" because of the inhalant.
He did not inform anyone from the Water Polo and Swimming Association (VPSCG) about the fact that he had taken the test, nor did he ask for a doctor's statement whether the drug was on the positive or "exempt" list of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
As "Vijesti" learns, Ukropina did not ask for a B sample, but admitted his guilt, and by the end of the month he must send a statement to Wada about the use of illegal means.
The information that Ukropina was positive was reported to VPSCG after the quarter-final with Spain in Doha, which is why he was in the stands during the matches with Greece and Hungary.
The minimum sentence is six months, which means he will not play in the Olympics. He is not the first left-handed water polo player from Montenegro who has to take a break, because Đuro Radović was out of the pool from October 2021 to February 2023 because he either did not fill out the documentation on doping on several occasions or did it in the wrong way.
