After several seasons during which the Regional League was played as a tournament, Herceg Novi finally enjoyed a match between the greats from the former Yugoslavia - and what a real derby.
Jadran m:tel and Mladost from Zagreb opened the new season of the regional Premier League with a great match, and after an exciting 32 minutes, the Montenegrin team won - 11:9.
Although it is only the first round, this match, just like the recent one in the Champions League qualifiers, announces that Vladimir Gojković has put together a team for great things. Especially when you know how much Mladost has strengthened, that it is one of the favorites of the region...
"I think this is a good indicator of our shape and the chemistry in the team - I hope for the best in the rest of the season," said Matija Sladović, a young water polo player from Škver.
An excellent first quarter and a much weaker second marked the first half at Škver.
At the start, Novljan scored from all positions, Aleksandar Ivović, Jovan Vujović, Dmitrij Holod, Danilo Stupar and his namesake Radović were safe, so Jadran was 5:2 after eight minutes.
Thanks to the goals of the great Vasilij Radović, Gojković's boys maintained a plus three (7:4) in the second quarter until three minutes before the end, and then with frequent mistakes they allowed the rival to get back into the game. After one made by Vuk Milojević, the "toads" from the counter reached 7:6 before the break.
The nets shook much less in the continuation, with a goal by Josip Vrlić at the end of the third quarter, Mladost finally equalized (7:7), but the answer came quickly from the second - another phenomenal goal by Ivović restored the lead to Jadran.
Shortly after the nice goals of Uroš Vučurović and Matija Sladović, the team from Škver had a plus two (10:8), and when Mladost threatened, Jadran had an answer - a goal by Holod and a great defense by Darko Đurović put an end to the game.
Holod, Ivović and Vasilije Radović scored two goals each for Jadran, while Vučurović, Vujović, Danilo Radović, Saldović and Stupar scored once for Mladost.
On the other side, Andrija Bašić, Franko Lazić and Ivan Buljubasic scored two goals each.
