The role of favorites was justified in a dominant way - the Montenegrin water polo players defeated the United States of America and advanced to the semi-finals of the qualification tournament for the World Cup.
The "Sharks" defeated the combined "Yankees" team, played for by our former national team member Nikola Saveljić, without any problems (15:7), so already in the first quarter, it was possible to guess the journey to the semi-finals of the competition in Otopeni, Romania.
After eight minutes of play, Montenegro led 5:1, then it was 7:1 with a goal by Miroslav Perković, and after 8:3 at halftime, the Americans did not even checkmate an upbeat Petar Tešanović in the third period.
Plus seven after three quarters (10:3) was quite enough stock for a peaceful ending, so Montenegro will play Spain in the semi-finals, which defeated Croatia 15:14. That duel is on Saturday from 18:XNUMX.
"We started very well and controlled the game all the time. Are we ready for the semi-finals? I hope we are, although we don't know the rival yet. It will be different, whoever will be our rival - Croatia or Spain", said coach Dejan Savić.
There were eight different scorers in his team - Nikola Moskov scored four goals, three by Filip Gardašević, two each by Dušan Matković and Perković, and one each by Đuro Radović, Savo Ćetković, Vasilije Radović and Danilo Radović.
Petar Tešanović was great among the goalposts with 13 saves in three quarters (he also stopped a five-pointer), so he received the man of the match award.
"I am satisfied with the victory, especially the way we achieved it," said the captain of the Sharks.
The second semi-final pair consists of Greece and Hungary. The Hellenes beat Japan 20:16, and the Hungarians beat Georgia 21:10.
