It was known even before the start of the World Cup Superfinal in Podgorica that there was little chance that Montenegrin water polo players would miss out on a place at the World Cup in Singapore this summer.
And after the first three quarterfinal games, the dilemma was resolved - the "sharks" had secured their World Cup visa even before the game against Croatia began (at 20.30:XNUMX p.m.).
The absolute favorites - Spain, Hungary and Greece - did the job for Dejan Savić's team, preventing any surprises in the quarter-final clashes.
Montenegro could have been left without a visa for the World Cup only if Germany, the Netherlands or Japan created a sensation in our capital and won a medal.
That didn't happen, it wasn't realistic - the Germans were easily defeated by the Spanish (22:9), the Dutch by the Hungarians (21:11), and the Japanese couldn't match the Greeks (20:10).
It turned out that winning sixth place at the European Championship held in Croatia last year was crucial for the "Sharks".
At that time, they finished behind Spain, Croatia, Italy, Hungary and Greece.
In addition to Montenegro, Serbia, Croatia and the United States (through the Olympic Games) also qualified for the World Cup, Italy, which won bronze at the European Championship, representatives from Asia - Japan and China, Brazil and Canada from the Pan American Games, Australia, South Africa and host Singapore.
