The Water Polo and Swimming Federation of Montenegro (VPSCG) issued a statement following information published in the media yesterday stating that the Regional Premier and A1 Leagues will not be played in the 2025/26 season.
The VPSCG had a concrete proposal to save the league - it was requested that the league headquarters be moved to Podgorica, that a new Regional League Board of Directors be established that would include businessmen. Financial rewards were also mentioned, and not only that... In reality, this is more difficult than in theory, so the proposal quickly failed with the explanation that the league is not marketably attractive and that in the past 12 years it has only had two sponsors.
We are publishing the VPSCG statement in its entirety:
"As you could see, partially accurate and incomplete information related to the issue of the Regional League is appearing in the media. As can be seen from such information, the only concrete proposal for preserving the RVL and resolving this issue was given by the VPCSG, which clearly presented its reform, progress and profitability for clubs.
The final meetings of all three Federations, as well as our clubs and the Expert Council, are coming up. For this reason, we ask for your understanding and patience until the final decisions are made, which will be crucial for the further development and survival of the Regional League, a sport that is the most trophy-winning sport in all three countries, and thus additionally obliges us to be responsible for its future!
"All relevant information and official decisions will be published in a timely manner. We thank you for your support and understanding," the Water Polo and Swimming Federation of Montenegro announced.
