The new Champions League season is here, unfortunately another one when it comes to Jadran M:tel that will not be played in our country.
The Montenegrin water polo champion opens the European elite at 18:30 against the namesake from Split at the pool in Trebinje. Rivals in the group are also Novi Beograd and Pro Reko, so it is clear how important a proper opening of the competition would be in the battles for one of the first two places leading further.
- I think this is the most important game for us at the moment. It opens the door for us to advance to the Top Eight until the very end of the group stage - he said Matija Sladović, one of the young assets in the team Vladimir Gojković.
The rival is well known, and after all, it is indebted from last season, having defeated Novi Sad in the semi-finals of the Regional League Final Four at "Škver".
- We had the opportunity to play against them, they are a very good team with a lot of individual quality. We will have to find a solution to stop that quality in order to win - Sladović is clear.
That Vladimir Gojković's young team can believe in winning against all teams this season was shown six days ago when they celebrated at the home ground of one of the strongest teams in Europe this season - Radnički from Kragujevac. The team from Škvere played a fantastic match, they celebrated after a penalty shootout, and Sladović played an excellent match.
"I think we have started this season well in the regional Premier League, and on this occasion I would like to invite fans to come in as many numbers as possible and help us continue that trend in Europe," concluded Sladović.
The first two positions in the group mean the continuation of the competition in the Champions League, while the remaining two lead to the second-highest quality competition on the Old Continent - the Eurocup.
For the second year in a row, Montenegro has two representatives in the European elite, so in addition to Jadran, our country is also represented by another giant, Primorac.
The team from Kotor is in a group with Ferencvaros, Oradea and Brescia, and they open the new season in the Champions League tomorrow (8:30 p.m.) in their pool against the Italian representative.
