Jadran M:tel water polo players achieved victory at the start of the new Champions League season.
The Herceg Novi team defeated Jadran from Split 14:11 in a Group B match in Trebinje tonight.
The Croatian representative started the match better and took a 3:1 lead midway through the first quarter.
A series of four consecutive goals followed, at the end of the first and beginning of the second quarter, for a turnaround and a 5:3 lead.
Split's Jadran threatened and tied the score at 5:5 with two consecutive goals, but coach Vlado Gojković's team went into the break with a two-goal lead (7:5).
They resolved all dilemmas in the third quarter, after which the difference was five goals (12:7).
The Herceg Novi team was led to victory by Danilo Stupar and Srđan Janović with three goals each, Danil Medvedev added two, while Dmitri Holod, Jovan Vujović, Fran Valera, Strahinja Gojković, Đorđe Lazić and Stefan Vraneš each scored one goal.
Loren Fatović and Dušan Matković scored three goals each for the team from Split.
The other Montenegrin representative, Primorac from Kotor, will host Brescia tomorrow (8:30 p.m.).
