Montenegrin water polo players finished the European Championship victorious.
Two days ago they defeated Serbia, and now Romania for seventh place at the tournament in Belgrade - there was no dilemma against the Romanians, as the final score of 21:15 shows.
"I congratulate the team on the victory and seventh place, although it is not the result we wanted. Still, it is nice for the tournament to end in this way. We were in control during the match, but we need to improve our defensive play and work on that in the coming period," said Matković, who scored five goals.
Our national team defeated Malta and France in the group stage of the European Championship, Serbia and the Netherlands in the main stage, and Romania in the finals to qualify.
He lost too easily to Hungary and Spain, which was enough to leave him without a chance to compete for a medal early on and to get a feel for how harsh the new competition format can be.
"You always think you can do better and more, but in the most important matches we were not up to par. We are not satisfied with the results in the duels with Hungary and Spain, later it was better and it is good that we ended the championship with triumphs. We gave our all and I think this tournament will mean a lot to the young players who have just joined the selection," said center Vladan Spaić.
