Three finals, countless very good matches, goals that kept coming and going - that's how the 2025/26 season went for the Montenegrin water polo player. Nikola Moskva in the Honved cap.
The Hungarian giant, a six-time national champion and European champion in 2004 when he defeated Jadran from Herceg Novi in the final of the then Euroleague, is not what he once was, but perhaps it is time to return to the biggest stage.
- The season exceeded expectations. We were outsiders, the fifth strongest team in the domestic championship, but we showed what and how much we can do and reached the final for the first time in almost 20 years. We wanted to be in the Top 4, and we played in three finals - in the playoffs and the Hungarian Cup, and in the Conference Cup - Moskov tells "Vijesti".
Moskov has made a huge contribution to Honved's progress and is proud of his performance. How could he not be...
- I managed to score 168 goals for Honved in one season. To be the top scorer in the Hungarian league and the Conference Cup, and also the first foreigner to score the most goals in the strongest leagues - Hungary, Greece and Italy. I don't know how many players have managed to achieve that and whether anyone has ever done it - Moskov points out.
The work and effort paid off.
- I left Montenegro when I was 19 years old and helped all the clubs I played for to progress and reach a higher level. I want to encourage the younger generation to believe in themselves and follow their own path no matter how thorny it is. If I could do it, they can too - says Moskov.
His mission in Honved is over, he will continue his career in Georgia - he will play for Apolo, with whom he signed a two-year contract. The new member of Apolo is also Nemanja Vico, and former Jadran players Matija Sladovic, Filip i Martin Gardašević, and since winter there is the legendary Denesh Varga.
- I look back on my time at Honved with pride. And I must mention that I had the opportunity to work with the famous Marton Sivoš i Norbert Hošnjanski who are not only legends of Hungarian, but also world water polo. I learned a lot, grew into a better player and person. The way Sivoš sees water polo is what we will see in the future. I don't just mean creativity and tactics, but also the way he approaches the players, makes them give more than 100 percent. I have worked with many top players and coaches, for me he is number one - said Moskov.
I'm ready to sacrifice myself if I'm on the national team roster.
This summer, the Montenegrin national team will compete in the World Cup Superfinal, which will be held in July.
Moscow wants to be part of the "sharks" that will compete in the finals hosted by Sydney.
- Next comes preparations in the United States, then a trip to Sydney. Whether I will be on the list or not, I still don't know. It's up to me to give my best and impose myself on the coach. I'm one of the oldest here and I'm ready to sacrifice myself for the team and the needs of the national team. I made a good transfer to Georgia, it's a new club with big ambitions and I found new motivation. I can't wait for the start of the season and I'm looking forward to the new challenge, I hope I will be successful and help fulfill my ambitions - concluded Moskov.
