The performance of the Montenegrin water polo team in the matches against Greece and Serbia in the first two rounds of the group stage of the Mediterranean Games was not good. However, despite this, victories were achieved that paved the way to the semi-finals, and an easy triumph over Slovenia confirmed first place in Group A.

Everything that has been done so far is now in vain because the real thing is on its way - the fight for medals. The "Sharks" will play Spain in the semifinals today at 16 pm. A victory would secure a medal, while a possible defeat would send Dejan Savić's team into the fight for bronze.
"I expect a disciplined and aggressive Spain. They are at the top of world water polo and an example to other teams and us. They enter every competition looking for a gold medal," said Vladan Spaić after the match with Slovenia.
Spain reached the semi-finals by finishing second in Group B. The "Red Fury" came to this tournament with a rejuvenated squad, but certainly full of quality. They defeated Turkey (15:9), Bosnia and Herzegovina (33:3) and France (16:10).
In the last round of the group stage, which was also a derby, they were outplayed by Italy - 14:13.
"The semi-final is the most important game in the tournament. I hope we will play well and give our maximum. Spain plays modern water polo, they play fast, in transition, we want to prevent that," said assistant coach of our selection, Nikola Mijanović.
The second semi-final pair consists of Italy and Serbia, which came second in our group. The final of the water polo tournament at the Mediterranean Games is scheduled for Thursday at 1:30 p.m., while the bronze medal match will be played at 12 p.m.
