Members of the police and Gendarmerie surrounded the building of the Belgrade Assembly shortly before 22 p.m. and pushed the participants of the protest from the plateau in front of that institution.
Police officers in equipment to break up demonstrations quickly took action, and citizens scattered in several directions.
The plateau in front of the City Assembly is currently empty, and police officers wearing gas masks are guarding the entrance to the building.
The police action was preceded by incidents in which, according to television N1, a group of masked people threw stones at the Old Palace building.
The police set up cordons in the streets surrounding the City Assembly, and part of the Gendarmerie forces went to Slavija square.
According to the media, several people were detained earlier, and N1 television reported that an official of the Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP) Željko Vagić was injured in the incidents.

Stojković: Four students were arrested, elements were thrown in and destroyed the City Assembly
The co-president of the "Together" party, Biljana Stojković, stated that four students were arrested during tonight's protest in front of the Belgrade City Assembly, with the claim that the destruction of that building was continued by "intruded elements".
Stojković told N1 that the students were arrested at the Czech Embassy, and that "they were brought into a civilian car and detained by masked and armed men."
"This continuation of this beating of the assembly - these are not our students. These are some young people. I assume, given that they are unknown to us, that they are, as usually happens in the regime of Aleksandar Vučić - inserted elements, hooligans, in order to strengthen the impression that we are all hooligans," said Stojković.
The young people whom she claims are "inserted elements" are, as she said, masked and this happens at every protest.
When asked if she expected all of this to happen today, she said that the goal was to surround the Assembly and for deputies and councilors to enter it to address the crowd, but they could not.
"The reaction of the citizens was expected, they are angry, robbed, and the president's speech today was shameful. He spoke nonsense, as if this election theft did not happen... It was really offensive to the citizens of Serbia. This anger and the number of people is him produced with his address," said Stojković.
Jovanović: There is no disagreement
The leader of the Ecological Uprising movement, Aleksandar Jovanović Ćuta, said tonight that the plan is to remain in front of the Belgrade City Assembly for the time being and added that "there is no disagreement".
Jovanović told the Beta agency at the protest that they tried to enter the City Assembly as councilors and deputies, but that was prevented and that caused the anger of the people.
Borislav Novaković, an official of the National Movement of Serbia, told the Beta agency that until further notice he remains in front of the City Assembly.
"We are resisting this insanity. The assembly is full of police, there must be about 300 of them," said Novaković.
The reporter of the Beta agency also reports that there was a minor scuffle between the demonstrators at the protest, one of whom tried to prevent the breaking of a window at the City Assembly, but that a major incident was prevented.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said this evening after the session of the National Security Council that during tonight's protest in front of the Belgrade City Assembly, two policemen were seriously injured, and several more lightly, and that more than 35 "thugs" were arrested.

Lazović: The police should take cover and allow the councilors to speak
Radomir Lazović, MP of the Green-Left Front, called on members of the police to move away from the entrance to the city assembly and allow councilors to address the gathered citizens, in order to calm the situation.
"No one wants violence, we are fighting against violence. These people are carrying out violence, not the citizens who are being used by force," he told reporters in front of the City Assembly.
He said that the citizens are furious, but that everyone should do their best to prevent bloodshed.
"We defend institutions and these people are thugs," said Lazović, pointing to the city's parliament.
Commenting on the announcements that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić could soon speak again, Lazović said that no one is interested in that anymore.
