Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced that he will build a gas power plant in the vicinity of Niš together with Azerbaijan and that he believes it can open in 2029.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who is on an official visit to Belgrade, said that the project to build a gas power plant in Serbia will be one of Azerbaijan's largest investments in Europe, RTS reports.
Vučić emphasized that energy was one of the most important topics of discussion, that the era of electricity is coming and that Serbia needs many new sources of electricity.
He said at a press conference that he had also started talks with the Americans so that they could talk to Montenegro, so that perhaps from Bar "we could start with large oil and gas pipelines and everything else, so that we could have data centers from Prijepolje to Belgrade via Zlatibor, so that we could have data factories", because without that and artificial intelligence, as he pointed out, "we will disappear as a country".
"As Elon Musk says, in two months everything will change in the world, but no one understands it or sees it. That's why we have to rush and hurry, and that's why I am grateful to our Azerbaijani friends for that," Vučić said.
Azerbaijan, as Aliyev said, is ready to invest significant sums in Serbia, including in the construction of power plants and the renovation of existing ones.
"Domestic energy production provides energy security to any country," Aliyev pointed out.
