A fire broke out today at the construction site of a skyscraper in Hong Kong, around which a large number of firefighters were activated, the city authorities announced.
The fire broke out at 23.11 local time (17.11 CET) in Tsim Pa Tsui, a commercial and tourist district on the seafront. No casualties were reported.
The fire was first noticed near the scaffolding on top of the building, and the fire could be seen from the harbor as well as embers falling on the neighboring streets.
An hour later, the fire spread to the entire building and descended to the street where hundreds of onlookers had gathered.
The police said that four neighboring buildings were also engulfed in flames, but that the fires were extinguished.
A 42-story building is being built there, where the Maritime Club and a new hotel will be located, and the project is the Empajer Group.
Around the construction site there is a shopping center, several hotels and some residential and commercial buildings.
The Tsim Sha Tsui district is a popular tourist and shopping area in Hong Kong. It is known for its skyscrapers and the view of the city's Victoria harbor.
