Branka Žižić from the Directorate for Innovation and Technological Development in the Ministry of Science of Montenegro spoke for Boje jutra about the impact and contribution of science to solutions in the fight against the coronavirus.
"Currently, a competition for scientific research projects is underway, which was started before the new circumstances arose, and as a result, we decided to direct part of those funds to research that will be related to the fight against the coronavirus," announced Žižić.
As he says, from around one and a half million euros, which is foreseen by the project, up to two hundred thousand euros will be allocated for projects in the field of medicine and other sciences, which will relate to research in protection against coronavirus and similar epidemics in the future.
She notes that the deadline for submitting applications is May 4.
"The Joint Research Center is a reference body of the European Commission, which with this project call focused on the production of materials that can be used in the production of machines for disease detection, as well as for treatment," says Žižić and adds that the Institute for Public Health has one such machine that provides high degree of confidence in the results.
She notes that the Ministry of Science is a partner of the Coronathon project organized by UNDP, which aims to strengthen the technological community in Montenegro in devising practical solutions in the fight against the virus.
"The goal is to completely increase the capacity of the scientific community, and we have seen that awareness of the importance of science exists, numerous visors have been provided through 3D printing, and the companies that have been supported in development are now the most active in offering solutions," Žižić points out and notes that these are indicators that it is important to develop innovations in science because it is expected to provide an answer to this and similar situations.
