Even after a year from the first instance, there is no final decision in the "coup d'état" case.
The judges of the Appellate Court of Montenegro have not yet scheduled a session where the appeals will be considered, which was contributed to by the postponement of many trials due to the coronavirus epidemic.
And while the accused leaders of the Democratic Front (DF), who were sentenced to five years in prison by an extrajudicial verdict, claim that they have irrefutable evidence that destroys this case, the Special State Prosecutor's Office refutes this.
It has been exactly one year since the verdict in the trial, known to the public as the "coup d'état", was publicly announced in the Podgorica High Court.
The defendants in the proceedings exercised their right to appeal, but the letters of appeal have not been considered to date.
You don't even know when it will.
The hearing in this case has not yet been scheduled.
This was officially announced by the Appellate Court of Montenegro.
They claim that preparations for scheduling the session are underway, and that they would certainly go faster if the huge number of trials had not been postponed due to the coronavirus epidemic.
"In accordance with the measures of the Supreme Court of Montenegro determined by the Courts Plan for mitigating measures from April 23, 2020, in all courts, work continues at the workplace in the full scope of the work process, starting from May 25.05.2020, XNUMX. The reporter judge is Seka Piletić", writes in the answer of the Appellate Court.
It is not known who, apart from Judge Piletić, will decide on the appeal allegations, although the accused in this case - one of the leaders of the DF, Milan Knežević - sought an answer to that question from the President of the Court of Appeal, Mušika Dujović.
He also reminds that they submitted evidence to the court that allegedly destroys the entire case.
"The crown document submitted by the High Public Prosecutor's Office to the SDT of Montenegro, in which it is clearly stated that Saša Sinđelić, in accordance with the MTN and the CPC of the Republic of Serbia, stated that he participated in a staged affair against the leader of the DF and other accused and convicted in the first instance," he said. is Knežević on May 7.
In early March, special prosecutors denied these claims and revealed that they were conducting an investigation against several members of the Security Information Agency (BIA) and police officers from Prijepolje, Belgrade and Niš, on suspicion of obstructing investigations in the "coup d'état" case.
On the other hand, Knežević reminds that DF disclosed a few days ago that the controversial witness associate Sasa Sinđelić sent a letter to judge Suzana Mugoša, whose panel made the first-instance decision, and that in the letter, as they claim, he is requesting the payment of 35 thousand euros.
"No one denied us from the High Court, which means that it is true and we expect the Appellate Court to respect everything that we submitted in the so-called appeal procedure," Knežević said on May 7.
Knežević, as well as his colleague from the DF and the defendant's bench, Andrija Mandić, were sentenced to five years in prison in this case.
From the beginning, they claimed that it was a staged trial, in which 13 people were accused of planning several terrorist actions on the day of the parliamentary elections in 2016.
They were found guilty and unjustly sentenced to 69 years and seven months in prison.
