Zvrko: Citizens have to go through the process of getting used to the mask

Wearing a mask or any protection over the nose does not mean absolute protection from the virus, and the mask must not create a false sense of security, Dr. Elvir Zvrk, director of the Clinic for ENT and MFH of the Clinical Center of Montenegro, told Boje jutra.

"It should be understood that the recommendation to wear masks has its justification. It is needed in this favorable epidemiological situation. When we have a dam in front of the nose, it certainly creates a problem for breathing. It has to go through the process of getting used to the mask," said Zvrko.

"There is no special recommendation on how to breathe properly while wearing a mask. You don't need to think about breathing, it's a function that goes spontaneously. For people who normally have breathing problems without a mask, their breathing can certainly get worse. Then we have to choose where we wear the mask. "We don't have to use it in the car or in an open space," he added.

The mask has a protective role because it prevents us from touching our nose and mouth. The longer the masks are used, the lower the attention level as they are used. They are important in prevention, but on the other hand, they must not provide a false sense of security, Zvrko points out.

"It is recommended that surgical masks be used from half an hour to two hours a day, because they moisturize and lose their quality. After use, it should be stored in a bag and thrown in the trash. If we didn't throw it away and put it back the next day, it doesn't have its protective power and contamination can occur," said Zvrko.

He adds that, as far as hand-made masks are concerned, the best effect is made from pillowcases, i.e. from 100 percent cotton - they can be used more often because they can be washed, and they are the most comfortable.

"Visors have a protective role, but they are also not absolute protection. For citizens who cannot use a mask, let them use a visor," said Zvrko.
