In today's magazine, see an interview with William Alberk, director of the NATO Center for Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction.
For NATO, arms control has always played a key role in maintaining world security. For this reason, several agreements dealing with this topic have been signed in the last 50 years. The first one was signed back in 1968 in Geneva, between the USA and the then Soviet Union, and refers to the non-proliferation of atomic weapons.
One of the historic agreements ever signed on the subject of arms control is the "Intermediate-Range Nuclear Missile Treaty". This Agreement was reached between the United States and the then Soviet Union in 1987. The agreement was signed by five permanent members of the Security Council: the United States, China, France, Russia, Great Britain, Germany plus the European Union and Iran.
