The Kotor Prosecutor's Office and the police are investigating how last night there was a fire on the hill of San Giovanni that broke out after a torchlight on the Kotor ramparts, in honor of the Statehood Day, got out of control.
The Kotor firefighters extinguished the fire in the area protected by UNESCO until early morning, but they did not want to talk about the possible cause.
The July 13 celebration in Kotor got out of control last night when the fire from Kotor's ramparts, which are under UNESCO protection, spread along San Giovanni hill.
Until the early morning, Kotor firefighters were fighting the fire, which was reported to them around 22 p.m.
Last night, one of the organizers of the torch event, whom they did not name, told Radio Kotorska Skala that the fire was most likely caused by a defective torch, the contents of which spilled and then caught fire. Although the cause of the fire seems to be evident, the head of the Kotor fire department, Maksim Mandić, did not want to make a statement.
"We can assume, but we don't know the exact cause, the competent services will determine that, we did our part of the job as expected of us," said Mandić.
The prosecutor's office and the police immediately launched an investigation in order to determine whether a criminal offense was committed in the specific case for which it is being prosecuted ex officio.
As Vijesti Television reliably learns, during the night and morning the Kotor police conducted an informative interview with several persons, but their statements, as they say, have not helped them shed light on this case.
Television Vijesti also learns that the investigation will continue tomorrow morning, which will be attended by an expert on fires, explosions and accidents, in order to determine the cause of the fire and the place where the fire broke out.
On the other hand, the lawyer Nikola Samardžić, appearing as a guest in Colors of the Morning on Television Vijesti, explained that the Law on Public Order and Peace stipulates that the organizer of such events must notify them in advance.
"Such type of gatherings should be announced in a timely manner to the competent state authorities at least eight days before the organization of such a gathering, when the organizer is legitimized, he is responsible for anything that happens within that gathering," Samardžić pointed out.
This is not the first incident of this kind.
Thus, during the Independence Day celebration on May 21, 2018, Television Pljevlja burned down in a fire that broke out after fireworks were set off from the roof of its building.
