Analysts see unofficial information about the departure of Milica Pejanović Đurišić from the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and her intention to found a new party as a logical consequence of the political defeat of the ruling party after three decades.
Not yet confirmed, but reliable information from "Vijesti" about the departure of Pejanović Đurišić from DPS and her intention to found a new party, DPS did not want to comment today.
Analyst Srđan Perić sees this possible scenario as a logical consequence of the political defeat of the ruling party after 30 years.
That there might not be complete agreement at the top of the DPS could be suspected only a day after the election, when a long-time high official of that party, Milica Pejanović Đurišić, assessed on her Twitter account that the election day once again showed all the democratic capacity of Montenegrin society, and that citizens expressed their will responsibly and with dignity.
This would not be surprising if, after 30 years, the DPS, founded by Pejanović Đurišić herself, had not lost power in the parliamentary elections.
But the opposite happened and for many it was completely unexpected.
Or was that turn a surprise only for the uninitiated?
Those with political experience and careful chroniclers of political events in Montenegro were therefore probably not surprised by the continuation of the story with Pejanović Đurišić, in which, according to the reliable information of "Vijesti", from several sources in DPS, she is leaving that party and plans to found a new party.
The current ambassador of Montenegro to the United Nations decided to take such a step because she allegedly believes that the DPS has been spent due to a series of affairs and that it is smarter to create a new party than to enter into a reckoning over who will eventually replace Milo Đukanović at the head of the now strongest opposition party.
For former opposition member and current citizen activist, Srđan Perić, this is somewhat expected unraveling of a three-decade political saga.
"It is certain that the DPS is a structure that is now prone to erosion, political erosion, there will be attrition, nothing is as demoralizing in politics as defeat, it happened, its depth will only be seen in the coming period", pointed out Srđan Perić from Organizations KOD.
Pejanović Đurišić was for many years one of the symbols of DPS together with Đukanović, whose side she took when there was a split in the party between Đukanović and Momir Bulatović.
After that, she served as ambassador in several countries, and from 2012 to 2016 she was the first Montenegrin Minister of Defense.
The example of Đukanović and Pejanović Đurišić shows that damaged personal relationships always play an important role in party life and that this can produce bad consequences for the party, which has only been speculated about for years.
In mid-2013, at the proposal of the Government headed by Đukanović, the Assembly of Shareholders of the national airline Montenegro Airlines dismissed Zoran Đurišić, the ambassador's husband, from the position of president of the company's board of directors after 19 years.
Although the losses were in the millions, Pejanović Đurišić then stated that there should not be an unlimited mandate for any official, but that professional criteria and professionalism cannot be rejected in such a rude way.
Srđan Perić notes that all DPS officials have been together on the same political path for too long, and that he is not sure how ready some of them are to correct mistakes from their own past through new political forms and build a new, healthier system on that
"If you now have a change of government, you have a position whose primary task will be to correct huge mistakes, first of all in the field of the economy of the previous government, whether someone who was in a very high position in that government has the credibility to criticize the moves of the future government, that is, with whom with argumentation, you will criticize someone who solves the problems you yourself created," said Perić.
The DPS did not want to comment on the announcement of the possible departure of Pejanović Đurišić, and that only two weeks after the election defeat.
Spokesman Miloš Nikolić briefly said that there will be no answers to the questions posed by Television Vijesti this morning.
After the DPS switched to the opposition on August 30, that party advertises itself only with announcements, such as those after the sessions of the Presidency, the Main Board and the meeting with the previous coalition partners.
Only President Milo Đukanović gave several interviews to foreign media.
That's why these findings of "Vijesti" will probably still have to wait for the official confirmation of DPS or Milica Pejanović Đurišić.
