The recent decision of the mayor of Podgorica, Ivan Vuković, to help the employees of the former national airline, Montenegro Airlines (MA), with 250 euros each for opposition candidates in the parliament of the Main Garada is solely for the purpose of collecting political points and is another example of a disputed payment from the budget reserve. .
Although they do not dispute that the majority of MA workers need help, they remind that it was the former government of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), of which Vuković is a prominent representative, that led the airline to shut down, and that now it is hypocritical to distribute 90.000 euros to the impoverished citizens of Podgorica, among whom many also without income.
The Capital City additionally explains that the decision on one-time assistance was made on the basis of the Law on Local Self-Government Financing, the Statute of the Capital City, and the Decision on closer criteria for the use of current and permanent budget reserve funds.
The opposition does not dispute that a large part of the MA employees need help, but they believe that the mayor's decision discriminated against many who are also at risk.
They also question the method of spending from the budget reserve.
Vuković, on the other hand, says that his move should encourage state institutions to help MA workers as well.
MA planes stopped flying at the end of last year, after the company suffered a financial collapse, and state aid was no longer possible, as it was already being granted illegally.
Poor management and a restructuring that was never done eventually led to the planes not being allowed to take off because they would be seized abroad.
