The countries of the European Union (EU) currently recycle between 40 and 50 percent of plastic, paper and glass, and on the other hand, Montenegro currently barely reaches 10 to 15 percent, with the NGO sector claiming that this only refers to waste collection and not and on recycling.
According to the Waste Management Plan, the goal is to recycle 2031 percent of waste by 40, but this will be a big challenge because there is a lack of infrastructure and the developed awareness of citizens.
According to the Waste Management Plan in Montenegro for the period 2015-2020, 25 percent recycling was supposed to be reached, but we reached twice less, according to the Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism.
The NGO sector claims that there is often a misconception here.
And recycling, in addition to protecting the environment, is also an opportunity for good earnings.
Thus, South Korea, which is the world leader in plastic consumption per capita, recycles as much as 50 percent of that waste, and EU countries between 40 and 50 percent.
In addition to the high level of recycling, developed countries also make incredible art out of plastic, while most of the time we can't even properly sort and collect waste.
In modern society, life without plastic is almost impossible, but with a little willpower, the amount of this waste can be reduced.
Apart from the lack of awareness among citizens for greater recycling, there are other problems.
The drafting of a new law in this area is underway, which should better respond to these challenges, and it is the task of all of us to achieve up to 2031 percent of selective waste disposal, i.e. recycling, by 40.
