Although a large number of tourists visited Ulcinj during May, there are problems that should be solved as soon as possible by the beginning of the main season.
Crowds at the Sukobin border crossing should be prevented and controls on the registration of guests' stay should be strengthened.
But in the run-up to summer, the most painful point in the southernmost city of Montenegro is the excavated Old Town.
Excavated streets make normal movement impossible, which is why the operation of hotels, apartments and restaurants in the Old Town is practically impossible.
The Tourist Organization and the Municipality say that it is unacceptable for the Old Town to welcome the summer in such chaos.
This is also the opinion of hoteliers whose facilities are not in the Old Town.
At the protest this week, the residents of the old town demanded the responsibility of the companies involved in the reconstruction.
They are Montal dsd from Podgorica and subcontractors: Nik kompani from Podgorica and SN elektroniks from Ulcinj, who had to finish the work according to the contract in April.
The people of Ulcinj, supported by the municipal leadership, demand that a thin layer of concrete be placed on all excavated streets so that as many as possible can move without danger during the season.
They say that if the works are not speeded up, they will seek the involvement of the courts, the municipal officials also mention the possibility of terminating the contract.
The contractors, on the other hand, state that the main reason for the prolongation is that the stone for cobblestones has not been provided, and they promise that the streets will be passable on June 25.
The Sukobin border crossing should also be more passable, because crowds arrived with the first guests.
Registration of guests' stay is also a problem.
It is assumed that over 12 thousand guests visited Ulcinj during the May Day holidays, but not even ten percent were reported.
The Tourist Organization and local self-government appeal to all accommodation providers to register their guests.
They announce increased controls during the summer, as well as controls at the border crossing.
