The "polluter pays" principle has not been valid for years for the owner of Uniprom, Veselin Pejović, who today owes about 700.000 euros in eco-taxes, says Milan Gazdić, director of the Agency for Nature and Environmental Protection.
He does not want to comment on the threats he received from Pejović and claims that there is no selectivity in the work of the agency
"We have issued decisions totaling around 830.000 euros since 2015. So far, we have collected 137.000 euros from them. We were simply doing our job, if I had not brought these decisions, I would be responsible for that tomorrow," Gazdić told Television Vijesti.
According to Gazdić, the rulings of the Administrative Court and the Supreme Court, which, after Pejović's appeals, confirmed that Uniprom is a polluter that has a legal obligation to pay the eco fee, oblige them to pay.
Current regulations in Montenegro today recognize 32 polluters, and after Uniprom, Toščelik from Nikšić is the biggest debtor.
"On average, about 300.000 euros have been charged per year so far. We have charged 600.000 so far, and we expect it to be 1,3 million by the end of the year," Gazdić said.
The Agency for Nature and Environmental Protection announces a new Regulation based on which the list of pollutants should be expanded and not only that.
"Our expert team is working on that regulation and I hope that the price will also increase," Gazdić said.
The money from the eco-taxi flows into the Eco Fund, which initiates projects in the field of environmental protection.
