25 thousand unregistered vehicles

Car registration is a big expense, but also an obligation that drivers have to pay once a year in order to participate in traffic. Many, however, drive unregistered cars, hoping to go "under the radar", but this risk is often not worth it.

"During this year, officers of the Police Administration issued a total of 8500 misdemeanor warrants for driving an unregistered vehicle, i.e. an expired traffic license. The law prescribes a fine of 120 to 400 euros," said Ilija Janjušević, Assistant Chief of the Traffic Department. .

In addition to fines, the police excludes their vehicles from traffic, so drivers of unregistered cars become pedestrians. It is also excellent compared to the case that the driver of such a car causes a traffic accident.

"Damage will be compensated to the other participant in the accident by the National Insurer's Bureau of Montenegro, but the National Insurer's Bureau will collect the full amount from the driver himself through a recourse claim. The data of the National Insurer's Bureau is that approximately 10% of unregistered vehicles from the total number of registered vehicles. That is really a significant number of unregistered vehicles," says Janjušević.

This means that around 25 unregistered vehicles circulate in our traffic, which is why the Police Administration, together with the National Insurance Bureau and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, will organize the campaign "Stop unregistered vehicles" during the next week, for the second time this year, with the aim of informing drivers about the dangers of driving without registration.

"We will hand out flyers to all road users, and of course those who are found to be unregistered will also be sanctioned. This action will probably last five days," said Janjušević.

They warn that the potential losses due to driving an unregistered vehicle far exceed the registration costs, but also that technically defective vehicles pose a risk to the lives of drivers and other road users.
