Belgrade was one of the few cities in Europe where mass New Year's celebrations were organized in the streets. According to the leaders' estimates, there were tens of thousands of citizens on the streets of Belgrade who gathered in several different locations.
"City leaders promised that all anti-epidemiological measures would be respected, they announced that 50.000 masks would be offered to everyone on the streets. There was also talk of a quick antigen test," said N1 journalist Igor Besermenji for Boje jutra.
He states that this was opposed by doctors who warned that such events should not be organized in the middle of a pandemic.
"The situation in Serbia is now somewhat better, but doctors warn that we can expect a worsening immediately after the holidays. It is very difficult to say how much in practice it could be expected that the measures would be respected. We saw footage from the city center where tens of thousands of people crowded together to celebrate Nova along with some of the popular singers. Everyone who wanted could be tested for covid, apparently, rapid antigen tests were available," said Besermenji.
He points out that the government in Serbia worked to promote vaccination.
The government in Serbia persistently repeats that the only solution to the situation we are in is vaccination, and that life must go on, that it is completely normal that after the year we had, people want to celebrate and that is why it is important to get vaccinated." .
There is still no new information regarding the disappearance of Matej Periša (27) from Split, who disappeared the night before the reception.
"Periša was last seen near the Gotik club. The river police are searching the river. His father, Nenad Periša, arrived in Belgrade and called on citizens to report something if they know, even anonymously."
