There is a hint that from the next school year, media literacy could be found in primary schools as well, said Olivera Nikolić, director of the Media Institute, as a guest in Boja jutra on TV Vijesti.
Nikolić points out that according to research, children want to learn media literacy and see enormous potential in it.
"That's the language they speak, we're just waiting for the decision of the authorities to recognize it," believes Nikolić.
He adds that the Media Institute, through an informal body called the National Coalition for Media Literacy, has been advocating for greater availability of the media literacy subject in both secondary and primary schools for years, and that only high school students have the option of choosing this subject as an elective.
CSBH language professor Svetlana Koprivica points out that the fact is that even adults need quite serious skills to get by, let alone young people.
She adds that media literacy is actually subject content that somehow offers the student the opportunity to deconstruct the media message.
"It is something that is learned in a very attractive and interesting way, because there is no theoretical learning," says Koprivica.
