According to UNHCR information from offices in Central and South-Eastern Europe and Ukraine itself, as of yesterday more than 660.000 people left Ukraine and sought refuge primarily in countries that share a border with Ukraine, said Slobodan Raščanin from UNHCR, guest in Colors of the Morning.
He states that the data show that slightly more than 100.000 people are internally displaced, that is, that they left their homes and cities.
"The situation in Ukraine is very difficult and very complicated, and it changes from hour to hour, so it is difficult to make some forecasts and realistic assessments of how the situation will develop further," said Raščanin.
The UNHCR office registered the first refugees in Montenegro this week.
"It is still about individuals or families. We were contacted by them and the municipal organizations of the Red Cross of Montenegro. A few of them submitted an official request for asylum and a few expressed their intention to submit a request, while other families were more interested in it how can they register their stay in Montenegro and what kind of help can they get from Montenegro," said Raščanin.
He adds that there are children in those families, and that they demanded that they immediately continue their education in Montenegro, so that the normal course of life would not be interrupted.
