The actors of the Podgorica City Theater are waiting to get their own building at the "Cinema of Culture" location

Somehow we manage, but we are crying out for better working conditions - this is how the actors of the Podgorica City Theater comment on the fact that they still do not know when their new building, on the site of the former Kino Kulture, will be finished.

"We are used to working mainly in KIC Budo Tomović, but it was not designed as a theater, as a theater hall. It is absolutely necessary for the City Theater to have its own building and that as soon as possible, but it is also important that that building be in accordance with all modern theater standards. standards. We really need to have comfort, to have a place to rest, not to crowd in small wardrobes", said the actor of the City Theater Miloš Pejović.

Although the works were first made official in 2000, the cornerstone was laid only 16 years later, a few days before the elections. The original deadline for the completion of the works was October 17, 2018, and since then the deadlines have only been pushed. It is not yet known when the building of the City Theater will finally be completed.

"Works concerning the stage equipment are underway. After that, the contractor of the first phase of the works, "Cijevna Commerce", will complete the remaining works from the basic contract, i.e. the installation of electrical accessories and cladding in the tower. To fully put the facility into operation, the procurement of office furniture remains , which is the obligation of the user of the space," announced the Agency for Construction and Development of Podgorica.

The basic works of "Cijevna Commerce" cost three million and 905 thousand euros, and the stage equipment, made by the company "Tehnogradnja", almost two million and 900 thousand. The Agency claims that problems with the project documentation caused the delay, and in the meantime additional costs arose.

"As part of the stage technique works, the technical documentation did not address the power supply of all the necessary equipment, which, together with all the missing details and unresolved issues from the project, required the publication of a new tender in the amount of 280.000 euros for the procurement and installation of equipment for automatic control of devices and the systems of the City Theatre, without which the facility cannot function", the Agency states.

The new costs and new deadlines related to the construction of the new building meant that the actors practically got used to working in modest conditions, and could not match almost any city theater in the main cities of the region.

"The fact that we don't have a specific deadline is really worrying. Of course, it would be a huge windfall if that building were to open," said Pejović.

That's why they hope that they will soon be able to dance on the boards that mean life in their house...and finally in a comfortable environment.
