On the territory of Montenegro, there is still no organized place for disposing of unusable tires, so the slope of the river Cijevna in the settlement of Cijevna Zatrijebač served unscrupulous citizens.
"We don't know who. You see how this collapsed, I think it will continue. You see how the road was built, this big platform looked different before, it was a natural wall and when the road was built, this platform was built, it expanded, the vegetation is flattened and in fact the soil remains and erosion is taking place. Tires have been placed there and due to the weight and weather conditions they have come down, you can see for yourself that there are more tires under this soil," said the Secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development of the Municipality of Tuzi Ismeta Đokaj .
The authorities know about this environmental incident and, as they say, it is not a problem to collect the waste, but where they will dispose of it - they don't know yet.
"Why aren't these tires removed? Let me tell you, we didn't know where to remove them. We don't have a place or where to put them or anything. We encounter a problem when the tires are stored and people don't know, chain stores and vulcanizers are trying to remove them from their the warehouse is removed, they use various ways to postpone it", points out Tuzi Mirsad Orahovac from DOO "Komunalno".
That we don't care about the environment is evidenced by this scene and the tires that end up in the river.
"We are getting into a situation where the environment is being threatened. In what way? As you can see here, hundreds of tires, in the Cijevna riverbed, storing tires in a location that is not accessible to the public, irresponsible citizens burn those tires and endanger the air and the environment and we we are powerless here, we appealed, we had contacts to solve this problem", said Orahovac.
And that is why there has been an illegal tire dump on the slopes of the Cijevna canyon for more than eight months.
"We will definitely have to take some steps. I come from a company, a utility company, where it is within our jurisdiction to try to contribute to removing them. We have the capacities, our workers, employees, machinery, but definitely where to do with them. We will have to, given that the summer season is coming, the period of the tourist season is coming. My conclusion is that the state should deal with this a little more seriously. We are the youngest municipality, I don't know if we are the smallest. But much larger municipalities have this problem. I definitely see the solution in building a factory for tire recycling, and where it will be organized, where the municipal services and companies dealing with this will handle it," concludes Orahovac.
And until then, the beauty of the Cijevna riverbed will be hidden by a pile of tires.
