Although we have heard since 2012 that we are one step away from membership in the European Union, two days ago French President Emmanuel Macron proposed that countries that are not members of the EU unite within the framework of a new political organization.
While European and regional analysts see this as an attempt to prevent expansion, the Minister of European Affairs of Montenegro, Jovana Marović, interprets his proposal as another attempt to integrate and democratize countries that are neither on earth nor in heaven.
MPs from the parliamentary majority and the opposition agree with the new minister.
"When the criteria are clearer and when we receive the final criteria, we can make it clear that we have met these criteria and if the whole process is based on the principle of merit, then there should be no dilemma as to whether we are ready for membership or not ready," said Marović.
