For years, the prison in Spuž has been waiting for the construction of new facilities, and there are more and more detainees who, due to the overbooking of the Investigation Prison building, are housed in other organizational units.
In the Investigation Prison, 380 detainees stay in bad rooms and sleep on dilapidated beds and mattresses, while 720 convicts have significantly better conditions.
Unconditional spatial capacities, among others, are also the reason for the difficulty of maintaining order and discipline, especially in a situation when prison officials face pressure from criminal groups.
Around 2023 detainees and convicts welcomed the new year 1.100 behind the walls of the Administration for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions.
