In Montenegro, 40 people are waiting for a kidney transplant, and as many as 220 come daily for hemodialysis due to severe kidney disease in some of the health centers throughout Montenegro. The youngest is only 24 years old.
However, since many cannot receive a kidney from close relatives, they place all their hopes on non-relative organ donation, which practically does not exist in our country. It is devastating that so far, in only two cases have organs been taken after the brain death of patients, and both times they were not citizens of Montenegro.
