The water level in the reservoirs "Slano", "Vrtac" and "Krupac" has decreased and it is not expected to overflow, said the Vice President of the Municipality of Nikšić, Zoran Tomić, in Colors of the Morning.
He said that compared to January 24, when growth was recorded, the situation is much better.
The Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG) then issued a warning that floods are possible and that people and property should be protected.
"If it continues like this, and I see that the weather conditions are in favor of it, there should be no overflow of the Vrtačka dam, where about fifty houses would be threatened," Tomić said.
He also announced that a meeting of the Protection and Rescue Team was held yesterday, where the situation was analyzed.
"We have the units of the Directorate for Emergency Situations at our disposal, our fire rescue unit has enough equipment. It is up to us to help citizens if unwanted consequences occur, but we cannot prevent them. EPCG meets us with their information and their experts are our gave hope that we will not have unwanted consequences".
Geographer Ivan Miljanović points out that floods in Nikšić have been happening for decades, even hundreds of years.
"The EPCG warning is a good thing. It's better to prepare the team and be ready than the opposite".
According to Miljanović, the biggest factor is precipitation, its duration and intensity.
"The problem is that we devastated the area and built commercial and residential buildings in areas that are often flooded".
