After the Main Committee of the Europe Movement now unanimously proposed Jakov Milatović as the new presidential candidate, that party has no doubt that he can provide at least the same support from the voters as Milojko Spajić, whose candidacy was rejected by the State Election Commission (SEC).
"I believe that citizens, after the political disqualification of Spajić, have an even stronger motivation to support our candidate, and in that context, I am sure that those chances have not diminished even by a millimeter," said Vasilije Čarapić, a member of the presidency of the Movement for Europe Now.
The question is, however - do civic parties reduce their chances of winning by proposing more candidates for the presidency and do they thereby benefit the DPS?
"I think that Milatović can go to the second round and in the end we can replace Đukanović," stated Čarapić.
Democratic Montenegro MP Momo Koprivica is convinced that the leader of that party, Aleksa Bečić, is the candidate who has the greatest chance of being supported by the broadest population structures in Montenegro.
"He is the most compatible with the function of the President of Montenegro, so highlighting the candidacy of other candidates does not reduce his chances at all," stated Koprivica.
Monitor journalist Predrag Nikolić, however, thinks otherwise.
"More candidates are in Đukanović's hands. We have Đukanović's statement that he is tired of politics, the citizens are also tired of him as they proved in the elections, but here is a chance for him to win another mandate," believes Nikolić.
And the affair about Spajić's residence and citizenship, whose mortgage Milatović now has to pay, opened up a chance for him.
"It's an affair that damaged the reputation and chances of that political group. Milatović is a more serious politician, he proved that somewhere with the apology he sent to the citizens, the first from that political group, but we also know that some other things are at play with the electorate in Montenegro It is also true that many people are used to a little bit of populism and promises, so it seems to me that it will not be so easy for Milatović to achieve the results that were predicted for Spajić," said Nikolić.
Milatović is also aspiring to the post of mayor of Podgorica, so Vijesti Television asked Čarapić if it is true that Milatović asked that, if he does not win the race for president, he will still be the first man of the capital city.
"We have to consider all options, all scenarios, and I wouldn't say that this information is completely accurate, we just haven't decided on it".
The deadline for submitting presidential candidacies expires on Sunday, and so far only the candidacy of Andrija Mandić from the Democratic Front has been confirmed.
