The Bajović family from Bijelo Polje traditionally celebrates Easter in their home.
"After 40 days of fasting, we go to church, receive communion. Afterwards, we worship by eating the first egg, and then the rest. The Lord was crucified on the cross and thus took our sins upon himself, after three days he resurrected and gave us new life, eternal life, therefore we celebrate him with great joy," said Slađana Bajović.
Vesko Bajović said that they are trying "to pass on the tradition to the children, no matter how difficult it is in these times, primarily to celebrate it with love, to approach every holiday with love, not only this one".
And for the youngest, this holiday is special.
"I like when we paint eggs, go to church, and hit each other with eggs," said Kristijan Bajović.
The festive mood is best felt with relatives, neighbors and friends.
Their neighbor, Luka Radović, said that "even on the happiest day, Sunday, we come and spread that joy to the other houses in the neighborhood. It's usually the first day, the second day, at the relatives' house, on those two or three days we all visit."
Easter begins with a liturgy, and the Bjelopolje church of St. Nicholas was too small to receive all the believers who wanted to attend it.
Priest Milosav Jovanović pointed out that "the essence of our faith and our words is in the resurrection of Christ, to testify according to the words of the apostle Paul, if Christ is not resurrected, our words are in vain, our preaching is also in vain".
And the Bajovići say that we should look at life with more beautiful eyes and not judge each other, but to forgive, love each other and make the best of every day.
