Jokić: "smart" traffic lights will be installed in Kotor, they will recognize when it is crowded

In Kotor, synchronized traffic lights are being introduced that work according to the principle of smart technology, i.e. algorithms that recognize when there is a crowd and when traffic is passing, said the President of the Municipality of Kotor, Vladimir Jokić, in Colors of the Morning.

He said that this municipality is in the final phase of implementing the new traffic regulation system, in addition to part of the infrastructural works in which a new traffic lane and a new way of parking are planned.

"What will be the most significant progress in that part is the fact that we will implement the traffic light project from the small roundabout in Škaljar to Kamelia", said Jokić.

As he says, six to seven traffic lighted places are planned, but the most important thing, he believes, is the smart way the traffic lights work.

"Yesterday, we received the consent of the Traffic Administration for the installation of such a system, where in the explanation of that consent it is stated that such a principle, that is, an idea, was presented for the first time in Montenegro," said Jokić.

He emphasized that it would be the first implementation of such a system in Montenegro.

When asked how long it will take to implement such a system, Jokić said that he expects everything to be finished by June 15.

"We came up with this idea in consultation with experts from Istanbul regarding our infrastructure, which is expected to withstand a lot of traffic pressure, and the models we obtained through simulations indicate that we will get a 30 percent increase in traffic," explained Jokić.

He also referred to the decision of the Government of Montenegro to make the General Hospital in Kotor a Clinical Center for the Coast, evaluating it as extremely significant.

"It is significant above all because of the number of residents of Boka Kotorska and tourists who visit it, and where the need to provide medical services is very important," he said.

According to him, the announced reconstruction and extension of the new block of the hospital is an issue that should be included in the capital budget of Montenegro next year and, as he says, the municipality will prepare the project documentation and do everything they can.

"What is certain is that the department of pediatrics will be reconstructed," emphasized Jokić.

He added that the Municipality of Kotor will participate with the land, equip the plot and release it to utilities with the aim of building about sixty housing units for the "Zdravstvo" housing cooperative.

"How would it never happen again that we have a situation where doctors worked for decades in health care facilities in our municipality and took care of our health, and retired as tenants," said Jokić.

He said that the local administration will control the entire process, and reduce the construction costs to a minimum, so that the price per square meter will be as low as possible for future users of those apartments.
