Marijan Bakić, an epidemiologist specialist at the Institute of Public Health, explained that the World Health Organization (WHO) did not declare the end of the coronavirus pandemic last week, but that the emergency committee decided to lift the state of emergency that was introduced due to the virus.
In Colors of the Morning on Vijesti Television, he said that it can be said that the virus has mutated or that people have adapted to it, so that it no longer affects the "broad masses like at the beginning of the pandemic", but the most vulnerable population.
"That group includes the elderly, chronically ill and people with weakened immunity," he said.
He stressed that it should not yet be said that covid has become a "routine disease", but that "we are moving towards it".
"Covid is still circulating among people and can have serious consequences for some. It is a strong recommendation that people who belong to the most vulnerable group should be vaccinated regularly," said Bakić.
