It will take about ten years to replace and check all asbestos-cement water pipes in Montenegro, and according to estimates, this will cost more than 200 million euros.
The project, which is implemented by the Eco Fund, PROCON and the responsible Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism, has only just begun.
"The preparation of a feasibility study is underway, which should be completed at the beginning of next year," said Dragutin Sekulović from PROCON (National Unit for the Implementation of Projects in the Field of Communal Activities and Environmental Protection), who was a guest on TV Vijesti's Boja jutra.
He said that it is estimated that there are slightly more than 600 kilometers of these pipelines in the territory of Montenegro.
"In Podgorica it is the most, over 130 kilometers. In Danilovgrad and Ulcinj there are a little over 70 kilometers, in Nikšić more than 40, Bijelo Polje more than 50 kilometers..." Sekulović pointed out.
Due to dilapidation, about 67 percent of the total water introduced into the system is lost, worth about 50 million euros per year.
