While we wait to see if there will be an increase in electricity prices from the New Year, the Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG) is calling on citizens to install solar systems and thus protect themselves from market turbulence.
This was discussed at the Seventh Meeting of Electrical Engineers of Montenegro in Podgorica.
How can citizens protect themselves from electricity price spikes and possible increases from January?
EPCG gives this answer:
"The installation of solar panels, we hope that very soon we will also have battery systems on offer, in this way we will reach a win-win situation, both for Elektroprivreda, which motivates citizens to be part of a just transition, and for the citizens themselves who will be in the status of customers and manufacturers to meet their needs and will not depend on these turbulences," said Ivan Mrvaljević from the Directorate for Development and Investments EPCG.
The first phase of installation of solar panels covered three thousand users.
"29 megawatts have already been installed. We are about to find a way to enable everyone to install solar panels in a short period of time," said Mrvaljević.
The Montenegrin Electric Transmission System (CGES) says that electricity prices on the world market are not slowing down.
"Unstable times, we are trying, the system is extremely stable, it is ready for winter, but it is definitely a matter of concern how it will all look like," said Ivan Asanović, executive director of CGES.
Experts claim that there is no real fight against climate change without large hydropower plants.
That is why they are calling for clarification as soon as possible regarding the possible construction of the Komarnica high-speed power plant, which is controversial for ecologists.
"Somewhere we have expectations that in the coming period, with the new relevant minister, we will strongly support the continuation of that process and finally make a decision, from the perspective of the energy sector, we have no dilemma that the Komarnica hydroelectric power plant should be built," said Mrvaljević.
"We have something that we have used very little, which is our hydro potential, we cannot talk about it in the outdated way of 50 or more years ago, today the reservoirs can be arranged much better, the area around the reservoirs can be a natural beauty, to it all integrates and harmonizes with our vision as an ecological country and our vision as a touristic country," said Asanović.
He concludes that we must also attract foreign investors and seriously deal with large projects, and not give up lightly...
