The new director of the Podgorica Landfill, Aleksandar Božović, relies on new legal solutions and cooperation with the Government, in order to regulate the problem of burning tires and garbage, which has been poisoning the residents of Podgorica for years.
Residents of the Konik settlement in Podgorica have been desperate for years because tires and garbage are set on fire there.
It burns from illegal landfills, and Božović says that it must finally be solved systematically.
First of all, he looks at the problem of tires, which as waste are still an unresolved issue at the state level.
Božović criticizes the work of previous ministers in the field of environmental protection, and he has high expectations of the new one, Vladimir Martinović.
Concrete solutions are also expected by the residents of Stari Aerodrom, who, like their first neighbors from Konik, are the most exposed to toxic smoke.

"We hired experts who will do the Protection and Safety Plan, as well as fire protection, with sensors for early fire detection, with cameras," said Božović.
Until now, almost nothing has been done even on the selection and processing of waste, so that too must be changed.
"The first step is for the citizens to separate, the second is for Čistoća to deliver it to us with separate vehicles, then we would reach the utilization of somewhere around 30 percent of communal waste, which is phenomenal, at the moment it is below two percent," said Božović.
In the landfill, however, they cannot do anything on their own, so it will be necessary to make decisions at the central level in order to solve these issues of enormous importance for both ecology and health.
Quality decisions, however, do not depend on the party booklet, but are the result of vision and dedicated work.
