The basic court in Podgorica issued a first-instance verdict that the company "Nova Pobjeda", which publishes the daily newspaper "Pobjeda", should pay 3.000 euros to Nikšić's Ivan Vojinović in the name of non-material damages due to the violation of personal rights.
Vojinović sued for 50 euros due to the text of the Pobjeda portal dated September 3, 2020, in which it was stated that he shot fellow citizen Janko Gardašević, who was wearing a T-shirt with Montenegrin symbols. It was established very quickly that Vojinović was in Budva on the night in question, and the claims of "Pobjeda" were denied by his family, as well as by the sister of the wounded Gardašević. "Pobjeda" published the denials of the family and stated that it received the disputed information from its long-time source from the security services.
Vojinović told Television Vijesti that he feels humiliated and that he will appeal, because he believes that he was awarded too little compensation.
"I asked for 50 euros, so that no media outlet would think of publishing this or similar disinformation tomorrow, which could have unfathomable consequences," said Vojinović, who received numerous threats after the disputed text.
Pobjeda did not want to comment on the first-instance verdict, nor whether they would appeal.
