Montenegro does not have ambassadors in more than 75 percent of embassies, but neither do they have heads of missions at the United Nations in New York and NATO in Brussels. More than two years have passed since the last appointment. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Filip Ivanović, claims that this will change quickly.
"That by the end of this month we will have a certain number of proposals, political appointments, career diplomats for certain destinations, where we have missions. With the fact that, as I have said many times, that procedure is internal and the public will not be informed about it until the agreement is obtained," Ivanovic said.
When asked whether the appointment of new diplomats can be used for political filling in depth, Ivanović answers:
"We will fill those positions in accordance with the law and practice in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The law says the following: 30 percent of mission heads can be political appointments. Political appointments are all those appointments that do not come from the ranks of career diplomats, or from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs".
