TV Vijesti: At the Government session, Mujović will request that the contract on the opening of the mine in Mojkovac be terminated

"Even if that project is the best in the world, if there is so much opposition and conflicting opinions and the advocacy of a significant part of the public through the environmental sector and the activities of the citizens of Mojkovac who are against that project, then we as the government have no right to that arrogance to ignore those opinions."

Minister of Energy and Mining Saša Mujović will request tomorrow at the Government session to terminate the contract with the company "Tara Resources" on the opening of the Brskovo mine in Mojkovac, TV Vijesti has learned unofficially.

That the conditions for this have been met is also confirmed by the opinion of the Protector of Property and Legal Interests, which our TV had access to.

While waiting for the final decision of the Government, some environmental activists warn that the ambassador of an influential country has been putting pressure on local officials for months to open the mine in Mojkovac.

Back in November, Mujović announced that, if there were indicators of health and environmental degradation, he would ask that the story about reopening the mine be ended.

"Even if that project is the best in the world, if there is so much opposition and conflicting opinions and the advocacy of a significant part of the public through the environmental sector and the activities of the citizens of Mojkovac who are against that project, then we as the government have no right to that arrogance to ignore those opinions." .

Mujović then said that, depending on the expert opinions, arguments of concessionaires and views of citizens and activists, he will decide whether the department he manages will support the realization of this project.

On this occasion, in December, the Minister asked the Protector of Property and Legal Interests for an opinion based on the available documentation.

In the conclusions that TV Vijesti had access to, Bojana Ćirović states, among other things, that the contract can be terminated, because urban planning and technical conditions have not been obtained, nor are there any prerequisites for their issuance.

"There is no positive Opinion of the Council for the revision of the Detailed Spatial Plan for the area of the concession area for the exploitation of mineral raw materials - Brskovo, Municipality of Mojkovac, and judging by the content of the address of the Planning Team, it is certain that there cannot be a positive opinion in that direction," Ćirović pointed out.

We remind you that in November of last year, the Assembly of the Municipality of Mojkovac stated that it was against all activities related to mining in its territory, and sent the Government a conclusion requesting the termination of the contract for Brskovo due to, as they emphasized, the existence of a real risk that the activation of the mine would lead to a huge devastation of space, environment, and people's lives and health.

While they are still facing the harmful consequences of the long-closed mine, the citizens of Mojkovac, doctors and activists have been demanding for months from the Government - both former and current - that the contract on its reactivation be terminated. The civic initiative "Zdravi Mojkovac" addressed, among other things, the ambassadors of European countries in Montenegro on this occasion.

And while the people of Mojkovic are looking for international support to protect health and the environment, political and activist circles have been talking for months about the pressure of the ambassador of a European country on local officials to enable the Swiss company's project to be realized. Some environmental activists also wrote about it on social networks.

We will know tomorrow whether the proposal of the relevant minister will be supported by the Government.
