Recently, more and more doctors from Serbia are coming to work in Montenegro.
The Ministry of Health told Television News that 25 doctors from Serbia were employed in public hospitals last year alone.
The Serbian Union of Doctors says that this is because doctors' salaries are much higher in Montenegro.
"That the number is higher compared to previous years and that there is a growing trend when it comes to doctors coming from Serbia," said Milena Cojić from the Ministry of Health.
Last year, 25 doctors from Serbia were employed in Montenegro, at different levels of health care and in different specialties.
There are doctors of medicine, but also specialist doctors.
The Union of Doctors and Pharmacists of Serbia says that this is due to the much higher salaries of doctors in Montenegro.
"I believe that this is mostly the result of the fact that the salaries of doctors in Montenegro have been raised by 110 percent, which is a very serious intervention that will significantly improve the organization of the health service in Montenegro. I know for sure that there are two people in Montenegro who are doctors specializing in child psychiatry , so I believe there are also in that direction, and I believe there are also many colleagues, as far as I know, gastroenterologists and surgeons," said Gorica Đokić from the Union of Physicians and Pharmacists of Serbia.
A specialist doctor in Serbia receives a salary of just over 1.000 euros, and in Montenegro around 2.500.
And the salaries of subspecialists in Serbia are much lower - only 1.200 against 3.000 in Montenegro.
"The average hospital of a larger city in Serbia, where a doctor specializing in surgery has a salary between 900 and 1.200 euros, while a surgeon with many years of experience without being on call has about 1.300, XNUMX euros, which is quite a big difference compared to Montenegro," said Đokić.
However, the Ministry of Health says that Montenegro does not call doctors from Serbia on its own initiative to come to us.
"Directors of institutions have the absolute right to announce competitions, they should be public and transparent, and doctors from Serbia, as well as doctors from Bosnia and other countries in the region, can apply for them," said Cojić.
They also announce that, thanks to the "Manpower Mapping" initiative, they will soon have data on the exact number of medical and non-medical staff in our healthcare system, which should help them fight the shortage of workers, which is a problem that our healthcare has been dealing with for years.
