At the end of last year, more than eight thousand people were accused of various criminal offenses in Montenegro, according to the Report on the work of the Prosecutor's Council and the State Prosecutor's Office, which was submitted to the Parliament of Montenegro for adoption.
During 2023, more than three and a half thousand people were charged, and earlier close to four and a half thousand, of which the Special Prosecutor's Office filed indictments against a total of 800 people.
Last year, the Prosecutor's Office concluded 151 plea agreements with natural persons and two agreements with companies, which is significantly less than in previous years, and the court accepted almost all of their agreements.
During 2023, the Special Prosecutor's Office initiated financial investigations in 12 cases, against 75 people, and expanded financial investigations in five more cases, against 27 individuals and one legal entity.
In 15 cases, the Podgorica High Court accepted the proposals of special prosecutors for the temporary confiscation of property, with a total area of over one and a half million square meters, while close to five and a half million euros were blocked in banks, and more than 170 thousand euros in cash were confiscated. 39 cars and eight trucks, several expensive wristwatches and 18 art paintings were also temporarily confiscated, while a permanent confiscation of property was also requested in three items, namely residential and business premises of over a thousand square meters in Budva, luxury cars and watches, and two meadows.
