The opening of the Brskovo mine is not in the focus of the Mojkovac authorities at the moment, the President of the Municipality of Mojkovac Vesko Delić said in "Colors of the Morning" on TV Vijesti, adding that other projects are currently their priority.
Answering questions in the regular "My City" column, he pointed out that he stands by the position he advocated during the local elections that the mine should be opened because, as he claims, this investment would breathe new life into Mojkovac.
He added that the role of the Government and the commission it formed is to assess whether the project was built according to environmental standards.
If not, Delic said, then the mine, despite its economic profitability, should not be opened.
"What the municipality of Mojkovac and we as a local government, before the local elections in 2021, somewhere, all the lists that took part in the local elections advocated that story and that was the driving project for employment and a new life in Mojkovac. Now we have come to a situation that both the Minister of Mining and the Government distanced themselves from the whole project and gave the concessionaire 60 days to correct some of the flaws. My opinion is that the project is in a different plan as far as the local government is concerned Government," Delic said.
He said that his clear position as the President of the Municipality and as a list holder in the previous elections was that they were in favor of opening the mine.
"And that opinion was shared by all who participated in those elections. In the meantime, the opinion of some has changed. Personally, it is not because I believe that such an investment, without going into the details of the project itself, would give new life to the municipality of Mojkovac". Delic said.
He ordered to a part of the citizens of Mojkovac opposes this project.
"I say again, I think that the burden of the entire project should be borne by the Government and by this commission that they finally had after several years, which was supposed to show whether the project is justified, whether it is environmentally acceptable. I can only do it as well as the citizens to guess what the project stands for. And for that, some profession and a commission from the profession are needed to say whether the project is good for the municipality of Mojkovac, and after all, the whole of Montenegro and the north municipality of Mojkovac," said Delic.
"My position was that it is always a good chance for Mojkovac to retain the status of a city, and if that project is not acceptable and does not meet ecological standards, of course there will be no one who is crazy to be in favor of such a project," Delić said.
