During the last year, police officers seized around 960 kilograms of different types of narcotic drugs. This figure is significantly lower compared to previous years, and the record was in 2021, when 4 tons and 700 kilograms of narcotics were seized.
Last year, marijuana was seized in most cases, while around 30 kilograms of cocaine and heroin were found. The Police Administration explains that smuggling is most common on the border with Albania and that during 2023, 335 persons were prosecuted who were connected to criminal acts in the field of drug abuse. Among them were 111 returnees.
Although 2023 was not followed by significant seizures of cocaine, a year earlier, around half a ton of the substance was found in the warehouse of the trading company Voli. At that time, only the freight forwarder Đoko Drobnjak was arrested, who was later acquitted.
Even after two years, the initiators of that action have not been revealed. A comment that will be remembered and related to the quality of that drug was made by the then chief special prosecutor, and today, Milivoje Katnić, who is suspected of being a member of a criminal organization.
"Because it's important that this drug is 96 percent pure, that's perfection. But I don't suggest you use it. Everyone knows that I'm an athlete, alcohol, coffee, nothing. Not even white," said Katnić at the time.
The record seizure was recorded in 2021, when over a ton of cocaine was found in the Zeta village of Mojanovići in a warehouse owned by Budimir Krstović and his daughter Marina, who were then arrested. However, they were acquitted of drug smuggling yesterday in a repeated court proceeding.
On Montenegrin roads, it is not uncommon to find people behind the wheel who are under the influence of psychoactive substances, explains court expert Nemanja Radojević.
Last year, police officers sanctioned 142 drivers for driving under the influence of psychoactive substances. They also explain in which cases they decide to check.
"When, during traffic control, a police officer stops a driver who shows signs of alcohol impairment, and after a breathalyzer test, it is determined that he is not under the influence of alcohol," says the Police Administration.
Therefore, in those situations, says Radojević, it is necessary to take blood from the driver and perform a reliable chemical-toxicological analysis.
