Research by the Media Union of Montenegro (SMCG) shows that a systematic approach to the education of journalists on media literacy is needed.
As they state, journalists are aware of the challenges brought by the accelerated and simplified way of collecting information via the Internet and social networks.
However, a large number of journalists still use social networks as a source of information on a daily basis. Therefore, it is necessary for employees in the media to approach such news with caution and to educate themselves about media literacy.
"When it comes to exposure to disinformation, as many as 81 percent of media employees state that they are exposed to it daily and often. Almost the majority of respondents believe that the newsroom's response to these challenges is extremely weak, and as the reason for this, the respondents state that this topic is mostly not in their focus , that they mostly deal with daily things", said the author of the research, Dražen Đurašković.
"Today, we are bombarded daily with hundreds and thousands of news from various sources. All these sources are far from benevolent. Many of them try to promote certain attitudes, manipulative and false narratives, and it is up to us as journalists and media workers to be careful every day ", pointed out the president of SMCG Radomir Kračković.
